Remote access
Objective: To provide students and staff home online remote access to Berea High School's Internet reference resources.
Background:
If education is to be universal and accessible, then students and staff
must have access to resources. This means that school
print, non-print (audio, video, etc.), and Internet resources should
be made accessible. Berea High School began providing home online
remote reference access in 1999 using the State Library System's DISCUS
databases (InfoTrac, SIRS, & Grolier Encyclopedias).
During the 2000-2001 school year the Berea High School faculty Shared Governance
Team procured State ACT 135 funding to secure other Internet web titles
to enhance classroom and home remote access activities and research.
In addition to these programs, the Berea Media Center's staff has
made online web links to various government Internet resource sites and
continues to acquire new electronic subscription titles to enhance all
areas of academic study.
Conclusion:
Now that Berea's community has access to the Internet at home or by
using the public library, online remote access is a dynamic educational
reference facility for our faculty and students. The Berea High School
media specialists have found subscriptions to electronic databases as an
efficient means of securing and distributing reference resources with the
greatest utilization.
